WDC Water Bylaw

Waikato District Council’s policy committee has now finally adopted a water bylaw which requires all new homes in the Waikato district joining its water supply to build a tank to collect rain water.  The Tamahere Community Committee submitted against the draft bylaw, and while we were successful in securing some major changes to the draft, we still believe there are contentious areas that may prove problematic in the future.  Click here to view the Water Bylaw

For Tamahere residents, the new Water Bylaw stipulates that in rural areas tanks shall have a minimum capacity of 22,000 litres and a mains connection to the rain water tank may be provided to maintain a minimum water level during dry periods.  A backflow must be installed to prevent possible mains contamination.
